Ground explores how technology can reveal the invisible lives of plants, creating a new way for people to experience connection with nature from their homes.

CONTEXT

Modern lifestyles and remote working have increased our disconnection from nature, despite evidence that meaningful interactions with nature can improve wellbeing.

PROBLEM

Houseplants provide a passive connection to nature, but users lack awareness of the plant’s internal life and the impact of their interactions.

GOAL

Design a product that visualises plant biodata to create a deeper, more active emotional connection between people and nature indoors.

REFLECTIONS

Studying product design, meant balancing user needs, technical considerations, market trends & so much more involved in designing and developing successful products. I learnt the impact of understanding the user needs and that your first idea isn't always the best idea, i also learnt so many technical skills and most enjoyed working on the aesthetics and making product look really nice, something you'd want in your house.

Presenting a high fidelity working prototype in London at new designs was an amazing experience, i got lots of user feedback and it was interesting to see how people interpreted the product and the ideas they had around it, many people expressed actually wanting this product and many people found it really interesting, with many not aware that plant signals could be measured.
